March 5, 2010 REPLIES: 1 Jihadists or Corporatists, pick your poison…
On February 26, 1993 a group of Islamic Jihadists parked a rental truck full of explosive urine in the basement of the World Trade Center and detonated it with a timer. Six people were killed and over a thousand were injured. On September 11, 2001 another group of radical jihadist flew two highjacked airplanes into the towers, successfully bring them down, killing thousands and triggered two wars. On both occasions, the WTC was targeted because of its status as a symbol of world trade and capitalist imperialism. Their aim was to strike a blow against our economy as well as the emerging globalism taking root in the 90’s under Bill Clinton and the Republican controlled congress.
The Glass Steagall Act became law in the 1930’s as part of an overhaul of the flawed banking system that caused the Great Depression. It was enacted to control speculation and separated banking from securities trading. After 60 years, this was repealed by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 under the watchful eye of Bill Clinton and a congress controlled by Republicans.
On January 1, 1994, NAFTA came into effect. Originally conceived by George Herbert Walker Bush (The Elder) it was passed on November 17, 1993 and signed by Bill Clinton. It promised to open the borders between the US, Mexico, and Canada to create a free trade zone. It was supposed to be a boon for American manufacturing; creating markets for our factories in Mexico and Canada. It was used as a model for forthcoming trade agreements. All in the promise of free and fair trade. Unfortunately for the middle class, is turned out to be a declaration of war on their lifestyles. As quickly as they could, factories were shuttered by the parent corporations and moved to Mexico and later to Asia and India. All to exploit cheap labor and avoid unions, environmental concerns, safety both of the worker and the consumer of the cheaper products.
A mere ten years after Glass-Steagall was repealed, the economy once again was bordering collapse. Banks were free to invest in riskier ventures and acted like drunken frat boys turned loose in a whorehouse in Cancun. The CEOs and boardrooms of Wall Street gleefully continued to shutter manufacturing; downsizing employees and giving themselves hefty bonuses as reward for their hard labor.
My question is who really did the most damage to the American way of life? Wall Streeters, CEO’s, politicians, banks or a bunch of shaggy goat fucking Quixotic Muslims?
