Whereas on the morning of September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked and destroyed four civilian aircraft, crashing two of them into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City and a third into the Pentagon outside Washington, DC; Whereas the passengers and crew aboard United Flight 93 acted heroically to prevent the terrorist hijackers from taking additional American lives, by crashing the plane in Shanksville, Pennsylvania and sacrificing their own lives instead; Whereas thousands of innocent men, women, and children were brutally murdered in the attacks of September 11, 2001; Whereas pursuant to Public Law 107-306, the 9/11 Commission was formed to ascertain, evaluate, and report on the evidence regarding the terrorist attacks; Whereas the 9/11 Commission was also required in Public Law 107-306 to make a full and complete accounting of the circumstances surrounding the terrorist attacks, report on the United States' preparedness for, and immediate response to, terrorist attacks, and make findings, conclusions, and recommendations for corrective measures that could be taken to prevent, prepare, and respond to acts of terrorism; Whereas the 9/11 Commission stated in its report that it `interviewed more than 1,200 individuals' to assist in making its recommendations; Whereas one of the groups representing the victims, `Voices of September 11', testified before the 9/11 Commission; Whereas Beverly Eckert was the widow of Mr. Sean Rooney, who died in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and following her husband's death, Beverly Eckert co-founded `Voices of September 11', an advocacy group for survivors and 9/11 families; Whereas Beverly Eckert was instrumental in the development and growth of this important advocacy group, which now claims more than 5,500 members; Whereas Beverly Eckert worked admirably with the 110th Congress and was a key proponent in the final passage of the `Implementing the 9/11 Commission Recommendations Act of 2007' as the legislation to effectuate the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission to prevent, prepare, and respond to acts of terrorism; and Whereas the United States will forever be grateful for the services of Beverly Eckert and mourn her loss: Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives-- (1) acknowledges Beverly Eckert's service to the Nation and particularly to the survivors and families of the September 11, 2001, attacks; (2) recognizes Beverly Eckert's work to help bring about implementation of the 9/11 Commission recommendations to prepare, prevent, and respond to acts of terrorism; and (3) extends its deepest condolences to the family of Beverly Eckert and the families of all those who lost their lives due to the crash of Continental Connection Flight 3407.

Congressman Holt Seeks New Investigation of 9/11 Anthrax

March 5th, 2009 Seven-and-a-half years after weaponized anthrax was mysteriously mailed right at the same time as the 9/11 events, “our” government has failed to conduct any thorough or public investigation, or to find out who acquired and mailed the anthrax. This letter, which we were preposterously supposed to believe was written by another “Al Qaida” “terrorist” accompanied the anthrax, which we now know came from U.S. military labs. Hmmm. The good news is that Congressman Rush Holt of New Jersey has introduced a new bill in the House that would mandate a fresh investigation into who really was terrorizing the American people. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 3, 2009 HOLT INTRODUCES ANTHRAX COMMISSION LEGISLATION Bill Would Create 9/11 Commission-Style Panel to Investigate Anthrax Attacks and Government Response Washington, D.C.) – Rep. Rush Holt (NJ-12) today introduced the Anthrax Attacks Investigation Act of 2009, legislation that would establish a Congressional commission to investigate the 2001 anthrax attacks and the federal government’s response to and investigation of the attacks. The bipartisan commission would make recommendations to the President and Congress on how the country can best prevent and respond to any future bioterrorism attack. The attacks evidently originated from a postal box in Holt’s Central New Jersey congressional district, disrupting the lives and livelihoods of many of his constituents. Holt has consistently raised questions about the federal investigation into the attacks. “All of us – but especially the families of the victims of the anthrax attacks – deserve credible answers about how the attacks happened and whether the case really is closed,” Holt said. “The Commission, like the 9/11 Commission, would do that, and it would help American families know that the government is better prepared to protect them and their children from future bioterrorism attacks.” Under Holt’s legislation, the commission would be comprised of no more than six members of from the same political party. The commission would hold public hearings, except in situations where classified information would be discussed. The commission would have to consult the National Academies of Sciences for recommendations on scientific staff to serve on the Commission. The Commission’s final report would be due 18 months after the Commission begins operations. “Myriad questions remain about the anthrax attacks and the government’s bungled response to the attacks,” Holt said. “One of the most effective oversight mechanisms we can employ to get answers to those questions is a 9/11 style Commission.” Congressman Holt’s bill Source:

The SOP for releasing bad news is for that news to be leaked to the press on the "Friday Afternoon News Dump," so the story won't get much traction over the weekend. But Donny Boy was lucky to release that story of the missing trillions on the day before 9/11. The story got buried along with thousands of tons of rubble on 9/11. More money for the Pentagon, CBS News Correspondent Vince Gonzales reports, while its own auditors admit the military cannot account for 25 percent of what it spends. FOLLOW THE MONEY "According to some estimates we cannot track $2.3 trillion in transactions," Rumsfeld admitted. $2.3 trillion — that's $8,000 for every man, woman and child in America. To understand how the Pentagon can lose track of trillions, consider the case of one military accountant who tried to find out what happened to a mere $300 million. "We know it's gone. Minnery, a former Marine turned whistle-blower, is risking his job by speaking out for the first time about the millions he noticed were missing from one defense agency's balance sheets. (8:00 a.m.-8:50 a.m.) September 11, 2001: Rumsfeld Holds Breakfast Meeting at Pentagon; Key Military Figures Present During the course of the meeting Rumsfeld predicts that some kind of “shocking” world event will occur in the near future (see (Before 8:46 a.m.) September 11, 2001). Most accounts suggest the meeting is adjourned soon after the time the first WTC tower is hit, presumably around 8:50 a.m., though one report says it ends at about 9 a.m. Just prior to the meeting ending, Rumsfeld is handed a note informing him of the crash (see Shortly After 8:46 a.m. September 11, 2001). Edmund Giambastiani also sees this note. Whether the other people in attendance are notified of the crash at this time is unknown. Thomas White says, “We all went on with the day’s business,” after leaving the meeting. He heads off to give a speech at the nearby Army Navy Country Club. It's too bad that those Army auditors that were tracking down that missing 2.3 TRILLION didn't have "Rummy's" prescience or they might of been able to leave the Pentagon before something slammed into the Pentagon on 9/11, destroying the evidence the auditors had compiled of the missing 2.3 TRILLION. a trillion here, a trillion there ... And we know that Flight 77, allegedly piloted by an incompetent, made an aerobatic, spiralling descent over Washington, effecting a 270-degree turn to strike the Pentagon from a western approach at ground level. The side struck was the only one with an exterior wall hardened against attack, and was relatively empty while renovation continued. Relatively. The unfortunate construction workers perished outside, but who were the expendables within? From The Pittsburg Post Gazette, December 20, 2001: "One Army office in the Pentagon lost 34 of its 65 employees in the attack. Most of those killed in the office, called Resource Services Washington, were civilian accountants, bookkeepers and budget analysts. They were at their desks when American Airlines Flight 77 struck." The Arlington County After-Action Report noted that the "impact area included both the Navy operations center and the office complex of the National Guard and Army Reserve. It was also the end of the fiscal year and important budget information was in the damaged area." And Insight Magazine editorialized that "the Department of the Army, headed by former Enron executive Thomas White, had an excuse [for not making a full accounting]. In a shocking appeal to sentiment it says it didn't publish a "stand-alone" financial statement for 2001 because of "the loss of financial-management personnel sustained during the Sept. 11 terrorist attack." Donny boy gets even luckier, as the actual Pentagon report states that an additional 1.8 TRILLION is not properly accounted for, but the auditors ran out of money and time... and out of living. Department of Defense Office of the Inspector General -- Audit The DFAS centers processed approximately $7.6 trillion in department-level accounting entries to DoD Component financial data used to prepare departmental reports and DoD financial statements for FY 1999. Of the $7.6 trillion in department-level accounting entries, $3.5 trillion were supported with proper research, reconciliation, and audit trails. However, department-level accounting entries of $2.3 trillion were made to force financial data to agree with various sources of financial data without adequate research and reconciliation, were made to force buyer and seller data to agree in preparation for eliminating entries, did not contain adequate documentation and audit trails, or did not follow accounting principles. But in October of this year, Salon revealed that the two men had in fact been killed by friendly tank fire. Now, Salon has found that the documents related to the men's deaths were shredded just hours after the story was published. "Three soldiers at Fort Carson, Colo. -- including two who were present in Ramadi during the friendly fire incident, one of them just feet from where Nelson and Suarez died -- were ordered to shred two boxes full of documents about [Albert] Nelson and [Roger] Suarez," reporter Mark Benjamin writes. "One of the soldiers preserved some of the documents as proof that the shredding occurred and provided them to Salon. All three soldiers, with the assistance of a U.S. senator's office, have since been relocated for their safety." The night the Salon story ran, Oct. 14, 2008, a staff sergeant told three soldiers to shred two boxes of documents relating to the privates' deaths. "Staff Sgt. Swinton was in charge that night," Benjamin adds. "He told Kremling, Mitchum and a third soldier who had reported for duty that the evening's labor would include the inglorious task of cleaning out a closet. The first priority, Swinton said, was to shred the thousands of pages of documents in two large copy-paper-size boxes. It would be tedious work, but Swinton was adamant. 'He says, 'I need that paper shredded. That has to be done tonight,'' remembered Kremling, who volunteered to get started on the job." Privates Nelson and Suarez appear to have been killed by an American tank shell -- not in fact by enemy action as the military claimed. "Based on the testimony of eyewitnesses, and on video and audio recorded by a helmet-mounted camera that captured much of the action that day, my report stated that Nelson and Suarez seemed to have been killed by an American tank shell," Benjamin said. "The shell apparently struck their position on the roof of a two-story ferro-concrete building in Ramadi, Anbar province, Iraq, killing Suarez instantly, mortally wounding Nelson, and injuring several other soldiers. I included both an edited and a full-length version of the video in the article. The video shows soldiers just after the blast claiming to have watched the tank fire on them. Then a sergeant attempts to report over a radio that a U.S. tank killed his men. He seems to be promptly overruled by a superior officer who is not at the scene. Don Hutto Residential Center, an immigrant detention facility in Taylor, will continue to operate under a contract renewed by the Williamson County Commissioners Court Dec. 23. The 512-bed center holds families of non-criminal immigrants as they await rulings on whether they will be allowed to remain in the country. A private company, Corrections Corporation of America, owns and operates the facility with funds from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office. The county plays an administrative role under the contract, acting as a local go-between and financial agent in exchange for roughly $15,000 in administrative fees each month. ICE pays CCA $2.8 million a month for operating expenses, which first must pass through the county, according to the original contract. The Commissioners Court voted 4-1 to extend the agreement until Jan. 11, 2011. Only Precinct One Commissioner Lisa Birkman voted against the measure. “We’re supporting the federal government’s stand on immigration, and this affords the opportunity for the families to be able to stay together,” Williamson County Precinct Four Commissioner Ron Morrison said. “If the current government changes its stand on immigration, I’m sure we’ll change our stand on it as well.” History: T. Don Hutto is a former medium-security prison that was converted into a family detention center in 2006, making it the second of its kind in operation. Per ICE standards, families are housed together, but are separated by gender. Morrison estimated that residents remain in the facility for an average of 40 to 45 days, some staying as little as two or three days and some as long as six months. The average length of stay in ICE centers nationwide was just more than 30 days in 2008, according to ICE. Some county residents have protested the conditions inside the complex, claiming it retains prison-like qualities that are unsuitable for families with children. “There are detention facilities that are appropriate for families,” said Jose Orta, president of Taylor’s chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens. “This facility, which was once a medium-security prison, is not appropriate to detain families, especially children.” Lawsuit: In 2007, the American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit against ICE, alleging that T. Don Hutto violated federal guidelines governing the treatment of detained minors. The ACLU and its clients claimed the facility was being run as a prison, with child detainees forced to remain inside cells most of the day while wearing prison uniforms. ICE settled the suit and agreed to a set of conditions to make the center more family friendly, including improvements to educational facilities, better access to medical care and more time outdoors for children. “We can’t hide the fact that it has been a prison,” Morrison said. “At least [the children] are staying with their moms and their dads and they’re not being separated. That’s the reason I continue to vote for the contract.” After the settlement, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department began sending officers on random inspections of T. Don Hutto to ensure satisfactory conditions are being met. No violations have been reported. Options: Orta and others in the community contend that there are alternative ways of detaining immigrant families that would be more suitable than the former prison. Orta suggested that the center relocate to a vacant nursing home facility in Taylor, where electronic ankle bracelets could be used to monitor residents. “If T. Don Hutto closed, I would imagine that the children and their families would be transferred to another facility that is more family oriented,” Orta said. Morrison said he would support relocating detainees to the former nursing home, but the county could not operate the center without the current funding arrangement. “I’d like to see a different facility than a refurbished jail, but that’s what’s available,” Morrison said. “If they close it, does that mean we’re going to stop immigration? No. It means that it goes someplace else, probably not in our county.” The contract between Williamson County and CCA was last amended in October 2007 with the addition of a clause protecting the county from liability in any future lawsuits. Defining the county’s role * Williamson County is the local administrator of the contract between the federal government and Corrections Corporation of America, the private company that owns and operates the T. Don Hutto Residential Center. * The county’s agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office is called an Intergovernmental Service Agreement, or IGA. This partnership allows the federal government to fund and remotely manage T. Don Hutto while the county monitors the conditions at the facility. * ICE pays Williamson County $2.8 million each month, and the county immediately passes the funds on to CCA, withholding an administrative fee of $1 per detainee per day. In this system, the county earns about $15,000 a month. * In 2007 the county amended its contract with CCA to include a liability protection clause. In the event that someone files a lawsuit against T. Don Hutto, CCA guarantees up to $250,000 in legal fees to support the county. * More than 300 ICE detention facilities are operated under state or local IGAs. Our only influence is the interest of the people. At the N3TWORK, we hope to generate inspiration and empowerment through awareness. Paul Moyer: “Tonight, a community in the San Bernardino mountains has a real mystery on its hands. The official explanation here is that jet contrails are causing strange lines in the sky and that it’s pollen making people sick on the ground. But others are convinced it is something else. And they ask: ‘Is the government experimenting with our weather?’” Cedar Glenn, California, resident Gretchen Sherman: “There is a huge dust cloud.” Paul Moyer: Long-time Cedar Glenn resident, Gretchen Sherman, says she has never seen anything like it. Paul Moyer: “How big was it?” Sherman: “Oh, it covered the entire Cedar Glen area.” Paul Moyer: A cloud of dust leaving a sticky yellow slime all over her car. It happened again last February (2006). And calls began pouring in to the local Alpenhorn newspaper. Alpenhorn News Publisher, Dennis Labadie: “And they had a tremendous upsurge of children that were not going to school at that point.” Paul Moyer: Pharmacist Ed Burrows says it is the most mysterious illness he’s seen in twenty-two years on the mountain. Ed Burrows: “A lot of eye infection problems, upper respiratory problems, nose bleeds.” Paul Moyer: The nearby March Air force Base says it didn’t come from them. Others said it was a pollen cloud. The Department of Health found a yellowish tint on a tissue submitted for testing. But (quote): "There was no sign of any biological form such as cedar pollen.” And the test was ruled inconclusive. And it wasn’t long before things ballooned into a sky-high mystery. Paul Moyer: The story is not just here in Crestline and the alleged yellow cloud. People say the government is up there in airplanes spraying all kinds of chemicals to change or manipulate the weather. Paul Moyer: Leaving what you see there. And they call that a chemtrail? “So when I look up there and what I think are contrails, you’re telling me are chemtrails.” Alpenhorn Newspaper Report, Laurie Kelly: “Yes. A contrail would be dissipated by now.” (The Alpenhorn Newspaper article is reprinted below-2006.) Paul Moyer: “It would?” Laurie Kelly: “Yes, It would.” Paul Moyer: Chemtrails. On the Internet they are cited as proof of the government creating clouds to combat global warming. In response the Air Force says that [quote]: “There is no such thing as a chemtrail. The actual contrails are a safe and natural phenomenon. And that people are seeing more contrails simply because there are more jets forming large clouds, depending on weather conditions, as in this video of alleged chemtrails shot near San Francisco.” Professor Gregory Benford of UC Irvine works with the Department of Energy (DOE) on weather research. Gregory Benford: After viewing a short film segment of the skies above San Francisco and Marin County Professor Benford stated: “I think these are contrails.” Another film segment brought the following statement: “That’s very odd. They could be very large contrails.” Paul Moyer: He says the DOE doesn’t know of any jets spraying chemicals to affect the weather. However, he says, we will probably see it in the near future. Gregory Benford: “You’ve got to, in a sense, engineer all these, so you get the right kind of clouds, with the effects we want.” Paul Moyer: It is called geoengineering. Fighting global warming by putting a chemical dust in the atmosphere and reflecting harmful radiation back into space. Gregory Benford: “You could use barium oxide, for example, which makes big fluffy clouds. You could use tiny little bits of aluminum, which is benign in the environment, and essentially manage the climate.” But Rosalind Peterson of California Skywatch (former California U.S.D.A., Certified Crop Loss Adjustor-More Information Website: californiaskywatch.com) says Health Department records show a sharp increase in both chemicals in the water supply of Northern California, dating from the time the huge contrails first appeared over her home in Mendocino County (California). Rosalind Peterson: “And what I found was unusual spiking (in California drinking water tests) since the early 1990s, and barium, aluminum…” Paul Moyer: “What’s the significance of the barium and the aluminum?” Rosalind Peterson: “I went and got all the tests (from the California State Department of Health, Drinking Water Division since 1984) and all these things in the same test would be up way over state and federal standards. This had to be airborne because how could it get into such diverse regions of our county (and State drinking water supplies)? Rosalind Peterson: “We have jets going in every direction: Xs, east-west, north-south, circles. There is something going on in the air. Not camps as in summer camps. Camps as in prison camps and perhaps even concentration camps. One of the first thing the Obama Administration did was to legitimize their existence. These camps, which can be found in every state in the union, currently sit empty and are intended to be pressed into service in the event of an "emergency." Funny that we've made it over 200 years without needing a national network of on-demand concentration camps. Why do we need them now? It's been suggested they've been built to deal with a massive influx of illegal aliens. My guess is they were built with the knowledge that the US is going to experience a severe economic dislocation that is going to: a) require the suspension or serious reduction of social welfare payments (i.e. millions of suddenly desperate people in the streets) and b) financially wipe out tens of millions of formerly middle class Americans who are going to realize more or less all at once that their futures have been stolen from them by the people at the top In other words, the crooks are covering their bets. When governments have money, they buy peace with social welfare programs. When they run out of money, as the US is doing, the gloves come off. Or we can hope that these camps, built by Halliburton subsidiary KBR, were just another way for Cheney to rip off the country for his friends. Interpol begins studying Iran's request for the arrest of 15 senior Israeli officials over war crimes committed during the Gaza offensive.

At a news briefing on Sunday, Tehran's Public Prosecutor, Saeed Mortazavi, said that Iran had referred the case to the International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO or Interpol), drawing on the organization's charter and Israel's violation of the Geneva Conventions.

"Governments of 180 countries have received the information necessary for identifying the suspects," he said.

In a Monday statement, Iran's judiciary said that it has asked Interpol to issue an international Red Notice security alert for the 15 Israeli officials who were involved in the 23-day Israeli offensive on Gaza.

The statement added that the judiciary was also looking into complaints made against 100 other Israelis, with top military and government posts.

In December 2008, Iran's judicial body announced a decision to set up a court to investigate complaints, made by wounded Gazans against Israel and delivered to Iran by the Palestinian envoy.

The judiciary said that it would be ready to try the implicated Israeli officials in absentia.

"In the current week, we have completed our investigation of about 15 individuals who were among those criminals," IRIB, Iran's State Television, quoted Mortazavi as saying.

"Based on our investigation and according to article 2 of the Interpol charter, we asked Interpol to arrest these suspects."

Mortazavi said the charges included war crimes, invasion, occupation, genocide and crimes against humanity.

The Iranian prosecutor was referring to Israeli strikes that started on December 27 on the densely populated Palestinian coastal territory and did not end until it had claimed the lives of more than 1,330 Gazans, mostly civilians.

Many international NGOs and human rights organizations, Palestinians wounded in the Gaza onslaught, more than 5,700 Iranian lawyers and attorneys in the Iranian Bar Association along with a large number of medics were also among those who filed complaints against Tel Aviv, Mortazavi added.

A NEW ISRAELI CONNECTION to the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001 has recently been unveiled. Buried in a New York Times story on Feb. 19 was the eye-opening revelation that a Lebanese Muslim Arab who has been taken into custody by the Lebanon—which has accused him of being a spy for some 25 years for Israeli intelligence —just happens to be a cousin of one of the Muslims alleged to have been one of the 9-11 hijackers. Although Ali al-Jarrah was—publicly—an outspoken proponent of the Palestinian cause, it now turns out that he was actually working as a paid asset of the Mossad for more than two decades, betraying his own nation and conducting spying operations against Palestinian groups and the pro-Palestinian party Hezbollah. The New York Times, reporting on the al-Jarrah affair, revealed this: "It is not the family's first brush with notoriety. One of Mr. Jarrah's cousins, Ziad al-Jarrah, was among the 19 hijackers who carried out the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001." The Times added that the men were 20 years apart in age and "do not appear to have known each other well." The gratuitous Times suggestion that the two cousins "do not appear to have known each other well" is intriguing, inasmuch as it is an admission that they did, in fact, know one another. And that could be very telling, for there are those who are now suggesting that the older cousin may indeed have recruited his younger cousin as an asset for Israeli intelligence. The circumspect stance taken by the Times is no surprise, considering the fact that the Times is quite aware of the fact that there have been many sources—including American Free Press—which have alleged that the 9-11 conspiracy was infiltrated, if not controlled outright, by Israeli intelligence from the beginning. If the younger al-Jarrah was indeed an Israeli asset inside the 9-11 conspiracy, this would not be the first time that a Muslim Arab was involved, acting as a Mossad agent, in an attack on the World Trade Center. As far back as August 3, 1993, investigative reporter Robert I. Friedman revealed in New York's Village Voice that Ahmad Ajaj, a 27-year-old West Bank Palestinian held in federal custody for conspiracy in the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993, may have been a Mossad mole, according to Friedman's sources. Ajaj was arrested at Kennedy Airport on Sept. 1, 1992, after he arrived on a Pakistani International flight from Peshawar carrying a forged Swedish passport and bombmaking manuals. He was taken into custody, and subsequently pleaded guilty to entering the country illegally. Ajaj's traveling companion was Ramzi Ahmed Yousef, an Iraqi who law enforcement sources say was a "key player" in the first World Trade Center bombing. And it should be noted that it was Ajaj who was the source of the famed "al Qaeda terrorist manual" that was widely touted by the FBI in the wake of the second World Trade Center attack in 2001. In addition, Ajaj's colleague—Ramzi Yousef—is the nephew of Khalid Sheikh Mohamad, whom the U.S. government has said was the "mastermind" of the 9-11 attacks. In this regard, it is also important to point out that, for many years even prior to the first attack on the World Trade Center, there were many figures in Islamic circles who believed that Mohamad and Yousef were actually undercover assets for Israel. Although the FBI identified Ajaj as a senior intifada terrorist, with links to Hamas (the Palestinian Islamic fundamentalist organization), Kol Ha'ir, a respected Hebrewlanguage weekly published in Jerusalem, said Ajaj was never involved in intifada activities or with Hamas or even the Palestine Liberation Organization. Instead, according to Kol Ha'ir, Ajaj was actually a petty crook arrested in 1988 for counterfeiting U.S. dollars out of a base in East Jerusalem. Ajaj was convicted of the counterfeiting charges and then sentenced to two-anda- half years in prison. According to Friedman, writing in The Village Voice: "It was during his prison stay that Mossad, Israel's CIA, apparently recruited him, say Israeli intelligence sources. By the time he was released after having served just one year, he had seemingly undergone a radical transformation." Friedman reported that Ajaj had suddenly become a devout Muslim and an outspoken hard-line nationalist. Then, Ajaj was arrested for smuggling weapons into the West Bank, supposedly for Fatah al-Islam, a faction of the PLO. But Friedman says this was actually a sham. Friedman's sources in Israeli intelligence say that the arrest and Ajaj's subsequent deportation were "staged by Mossad to establish his credentials as an intifada activist. Mossad allegedly 'tasked' Ajaj to infiltrate radical Palestinian groups operating outside Israel and to report back to Tel Aviv. Israeli intelligence sources say that it is not unusual for Mossad to recruit from the ranks of common criminals." After Ajaj's "deportation" from Israel, he showed up in Pakistan, where he turned up in the company of the anti-Soviet mujahideen rebels in Afghanistan. (Incidentally, Andrew Allen, a wealthy San Francisco character who likes to take on assignments for the CIA to prevent boredom, admitted under oath "running" supplies into Afghanistan. He was also instrumental in destroying Librty Lobby and its newspaper, The Spotlight.) This could indicate that Ajaj was working for the Mossad, for—according to Covert Action Information Bulletin (September 1987)—the funding and supply lines for the mujahideen were not only the "the second largest covert operation" in the CIA's history, but they were also, according to former Mossad operative Victor Ostrovsky (writing in The Other Side of Deception), under the direct supervision of the Mossad. Ostrovsky wrote: It was a complex pipeline, since a large portion of the mujahideen's weapons were American-made and were supplied to the Muslim Brotherhood directly from Israel, using as carriers the Bedouin nomads who roamed the demilitarized zones in the Sinai. After Ajaj's ventures with the mujahideen, he popped up in New York and purported to befriend members of a small so-called "radical" clique surrounding the blind Sheikh Abdel-Rahman, who was accused of being the mastermind of the World Trade Center bombing. On Feb. 26, 1993, the actual day of the World Trade Center bombing, Ajaj was "safe" in federal prison serving a six-month sentence for entering the country on a forged passport. Later, he was indicted for conspiracy in the WTC bombing. According to Robert Friedman, "If Ajaj was recruited by Mossad, it is not known whether he continued to work for the Israeli spy agency after he was deported. One possibility, of course, is that upon leaving Israel and meeting radical Muslims close to the blind Egyptian sheikh, his loyalties shifted." However, Friedman also reported another frightening possibility: "Another scenario is that he had advance knowledge of the World Trade Center bombing, which he shared with Mossad, and that Mossad, for whatever reason, kept the secret to itself. If true, U.S. intelligence sources speculate that Mossad might have decided to keep the information closely guarded so as not to compromise its undercover agen
