One of the principal voices of the 9/11 Truth Movement will make his way to Webster University on Thursday, April 29. Conspiracy theorist, David Ray Griffin, will present "Is the War in Afghanistan Justified by 9/11?" in the Winifred Moore Auditorium at 7 p.m.

"I hope students will come to see that the official story about 9/11, which has led to the killing of millions of Iraqis and Afghanis and otherwise so changed our world for the worse, is false," Griffin said. "Not merely possibly false, but definitely, provably false."

Dan Hellinger, a professor of political science, teaches a senior seminar on conspiracy theory and elected to invite Griffin to WU for the discussion.

"Griffin has become a leading spokesperson for the 9/11 Truth Movement, which holds that the official account of 9/11 cannot be reconciled with the facts," Hellinger said. "In the mainstream media, Griffin and the movement are often called 'conspiracy theorists,' with a clearly disparaging connotation."

An emeritus professor of philosophy of religion and theology at Claremont School of Theology and Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, Calif., Griffin has written nine books about 9/11 to date.
Many have challenged Griffin's theories, dubbing him "nutty," "wacky," "silly" and "obsessive." But he ignores the name-calling, holding fast to the validity of his assertions.

He said his findings are based on empirical evidence, which hasn't been contradicted by his critics, and his books have been endorsed by many including architects, engineers, physicists, chemists and former CIA officers.

One of his books about 9/11, "The New Pearl Harbor Revisited, was a Publishers Weekly "Pick of the Week" in November 2008.

"This is an honor given to only 51 books per year and definitely not an honor ever given to a silly book," Griffin said.

While Griffin's views might seem controversial or irrational to some, Hellinger said Griffin deserves the opportunity to share his thoughts.

"Although being a distinguished theologian does not make him an expert of the subject of 9/11, he's a thoughtful man, not given to wild speculation," Hellinger said. "Right or wrong, he deserves a hearing, and he's willing to come for little more than the expenses involved. I myself do not share his conclusions, but I want to hear what he has to say."

Critical discussion will be part of the presentation, but Hellinger expects some attendees will be surprised by Griffin's approach to sharing his views.

"Many will come expecting some kind of extreme rhetoric," Hellinger said. "I think they will be surprised what a mild-mannered and thoughtful speaker he is. Even if they are not convinced of his conclusions, I think they are likely to come away with more questions about what happened on 9/11 and whether the wars that followed were justified by it."

For Griffin, the presentation will serve as a way to share his message about the events of 9/11 and about what he believes to be the true impetus for the war in Afghanistan.

"I want to let as many people as possible know the truth about 9/11 and the war in Afghanistan," Griffin said. "The war in Afghanistan - like the war in Iraq - has been based on a lie."

It was a special welcoming ceremony Monday at Schriever Air Force Base for the arrival of a beam (C-28) from the fallen World Trade Center that will be used for a local 9-11 memorial.
Airmen and civilians could be seen lining the street, holding a salute as the large piece of metal was driven on to the base. The beam, which collapsed during the events of September 11, 2001, had been saved as part of the investigation until now.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey donated the beam to Schriever. It will become part of a
future memorial on base to commemorate the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

1.nikola tesla in 1898 created a small earthquake in nyc with an oscillator that he attached to the support beams of his laboratory. the vibrations were causing the neighboring buildings to shake and tremble so violently that windows along the whole block were shattering and police broke down the door to his laboratory just as tesla smashed the little oscillator with a sledge hammer to make it stop.

4. upon his death the fbi immediately seized all of tesla’s research and personal papers and turned them over to the pentagon. it took years and years of lawsuits before the papers were finally returned to tesla’s family.

5.today, ’star wars’ and a military research program called ‘haarp’ are the direct results of tesla’s research being twisted by the pentagon with deliberate destructive intent.

6.haarp shoots large amounts of electro-magnetic energy up into the higher regions of earth’s atmosphere which then acts like a huge mirror and reflects the energy back down and deep into the earth’s surface. the beams can be aimed to direct high amounts of energy to enter into the earth or beneath the oceans. haarp can be used like radar or sonar to find underground installations or to find minerals –like oil for instance–beneath the earth’s surface.

7. if the beam is focused long enough into an area where two or more of the earth’s tectonic plates meet the resulting vibrations can cause the plates to slip–thus an earthquake can occur.

8. the earth–like our own bodies– is a living system of balanced and interconnected electromagnetic energy–thus something like haarp has the potential–like a magnification of the ripples in a pond effect–to cause massive disruptions in balance beneath the earth’s surface and above the earth’s surface–as in disrupting weather patterns.

11. it is a basic fact that areas of the world that are prone to earthquakes are also where the most volcanic activity takes place–there is a direct connection between the earth’s tectonic activity and the earth’s volcanic activity.
what happened in iceland this past week that caused almost all air flights over western europe to be suspended –because of huge amounts of volcanic ash spewed into the air? “for every action there is an opposite and equal reaction.” every little playground kid knows if you push one side of a see saw down the other side goes up…

12. it was reported that the university of tokyo monitors the Us haarp emissions of energy that take place from alaska(where haarp antennae are located) it was also reported that the haarp antennae were turned on and emitting huge amounts of energy into the atmosphere “24/7″ for the three days prior to the earthquake in haiti–and stopped s soon as the earthquake was over.

13. the Us pentagon’s southern command was running war games–drills and simulations– of a ‘hurricane’ type disaster striking haiti– the day before the earthquake hit–so the military was already ready when they got the call to go into haiti.

14. the pentagon, fema, and cia were running drills about airplanes being hi-jacked by terrorists and crashed into important Us buildings such as the world trade center towers, the pentagon, and cia headquarters–on or shortly before the 9-11 attacks. the london subway terrorist bombings took place AS scotland yard was running drills –war games–about terrorists putting bombs on the london subways–in the EXACT locations where the actual bombs went off that day –but this is all coincidence and ‘conspiracy theory’ –right?
Addendum: on the subject of war games –the Us pentagon and britain’s defense ministry had joint war games scheduled in the indian ocean region for the fall of 2001 which amazingly, put significant numbers of the ships, planes and ground forces of both nations fully armed and on the ready and conveniently close to afghanistan when it was decided to go to war against that nation as a result of the 9-11 attacks.
when negotiations between the Us and the taliban for the building of oil and natural gas pipelines from the caspian sea region of the former soviet republics and across afghanistan began to breakdown in the summer of 2001 –the Us promised the taliban either, “a carpet of gold or a carpet of bombs”.

15. the right wing in this country habitually covers up their inept crimes by pointing the finger at anyone who refuses to believe their ridiculous lies and calling them “conspiracy theorists”. brains programmed by “reality tv” immediately shut down and refuse to even consider the evidence and drink another ‘40′ and tune in to “american idol” , “the kardashians ” or “being bobby brown” or whatever the latest distraction from reality is.

btw the Us knew about the oil in the haiti, jamaica, cuba region for decades–look at the destabilization policies of the Us towards these three nations for the past 40 years–add in the oil factor and their strategic location in the caribbean and now you know why.

At a peaceful nonviolent demonstration against the forceful cessation of farming within what Israel defines as a buffer zone, which was attended by 150 people, two Palestinians demonstrators and one International activist were shot.

Nidal Al Naji (18) was shot in the right thigh.

Hind Al Akra (22) was shot in the stomach and is undergoing emergency surgery.

Bianca Zimmit (28) from Malta was filming the demonstration when she was shot in her left thigh.

The wounded are currently being treated in Al Aqsa Hospital.

Shortly after 11 a.m., women and men, including 6 ISM activists, marched from Al Maghazi towards the Israeli fence closing off the Gaza strip.

After being met with live ammunition upon cresting a ridge, some demonstrators continued walking forward.

This group included six women, two ISM activists and 20 men.

The 20 male demonstrators reached the border fence. Zimmit was shot while filming the demonstration between the ridge and the fence, at a distance of roughly 80-100 meters. Hind Al Akra, also standing between the ridge and the fence, was shot in the stomach, and Niadal al Naji was shot in the leg near the fence.

Demonstrators carried the wounded back across rough terrain to taxis for transport to Al-Aqsa Hospital.

The demonstrations are held in protest against the arbitrary decision by Israel to instate a 300 metre buffer zone as no-go area for Palestinians where shoot to kill policy is implemented.

People have been shot regularly as far as 2 kilometres away from the border.

Popular Campaign for the Security in the Buffer Zone, an umbrella organization that includes organizations representing farmers and Gaza residents living near the border, and also a number of political parties are present at many of these demonstrations.

Those venturing to the border regions to gather rubble and steel do so as a result of the siege on Gaza which, along with Israels 23 day winter war on Gaza, has decimated Gazas economy, including 95 percent of Gazas factories and businesses, according to the United Nations.

A pilot the British authorities wrongly accused of involvement in the September 11 attacks has won his legal battle for compensation.

The man, an Algerian-born British resident, was arrested in Britain shortly after the attacks.

Lotfi Raissi was held in a maximum security prison for nearly five months before a judge ordered his release, saying there was no evidence to link him to terrorism.

Two years ago, the court of appeal said Mr Raissi had been the victim of the heightened emotional atmosphere at the end of 2001 and ordered ministers to consider paying damages.



Justice secretary Jack Straw has now declared that Mr Raissi is eligible for compensation.

The amount will be independently assessed but it is thought it could run into hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Mr Raissi says he is delighted the decision exonerated him.

"This is one of the best days of my life. I mean nine years of struggle, I mean this is the end of it," he said.

"My life was destroyed. My career was destroyed... It was hell for me for the last nine years."

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Take this terrorist trial and move it.

That's Staten Island District Attorney Daniel Donovan's pointed message to the White House in respect of the possibility of New York City as the venue for the trial of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

Instead, Donovan -- whom many see as a Republican candidate for state attorney general -- advocates a military tribunal.

"The planners of the Pearl Harbor attacks were not brought to Honolulu for civilian trials, but rather Japanese defendants in the post-World War II War Crimes trials were prosecuted before military tribunals, charged with waging aggressive war against the peace. In Europe, Nazi leaders were prosecuted for unprovoked attacks on their neighbors," Donovan pointed out in a press release chock full of strong language, and issued to coincide with President Obama's speech Thursday on financial-sector abuses at Cooper Union.

"Does masterminding the hijacking of civilian planes, causing the death of 2,976 Americans and spawning wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, not constitute an act of aggressive war?"

Donovan expressed disappointment earlier this month when U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder told the Senate Judiciary Committee that "New York is not off the table" as the site of trials for Sheikh Mohammed and four others.

The government is considering using federal court in Lower Manhattan, with security costs estimated at $200 million per year.

"A trial before a military commission, in accordance with the standards set in the Military Commissions Act, will protect the rights of the accused to a fair trial, but will also ensure the integrity of our system of justice and protect the security interests of the American people," said Donovan.

The idea of Manhattan serving as venue is facing massive opposition from New York elected officials, including Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Rep. Michael McMahon (D-Staten Island/Brooklyn), as well as Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

"The current proposal by the Justice Department will not result in justice, but will offer a venue in the world's largest media market for those who hate America and seek to make a mockery of our system, all while further crippling the economy of New York City," Donovan concluded.

Shame On Jesse Ventura! ... The former Minnesota governor has discredited himself, and dishonored and defamed his country by promoting the mistaken view that our government was involved in the Sept. 11 attacks. Jesse Ventura should be ashamed of himself and embarrassed. The former Minnesota governor recently lent his political credentials to the discredited 9/11 "Truther" movement by alleging that the Sept. 11 attacks were either planned or permitted by the United States government. This recent admission was only a small part of Ventura's new book, "American Conspiracies: Lies, Lies and More Lies the Government Tells Us," which echoes a revisionist account of American history that holds the Bush administration responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks by implying that the Bush administration either knew about the attacks, did nothing to stop them or actually participated in them. During a March 10 interview with Barbara Walters on "The View," Ventura implied the Bush/Cheney administration used 9/11 as a pretense to start the Iraq War under false pretenses. Ventura apparently developed this theory after former Kennedy/Johnson adviser Robert McNamara visited him at Harvard and allegedly admitted to him that the Gulf of Tonkin incident, which escalated the Vietnam War, never actually happened. Perhaps what Ventura is missing is that there is probably more incontrovertible evidence and more witnesses who have already established what happened on Sept. 11, 2001 than most major historical events. To dispute the conventional historical account is intellectually dishonest and nonsensical. – FOX News

Dominant Social Theme: Questions about 9/11 are "beyond the pale."

Free-Market Analysis: The news in this article, excerpted above, has hit the US blogosphere hard. Throughout Friday, there were more and more comments like an inflowing tide – as could be seen if one did a little bit of research on Google. What was it in the article that caused such a ruckus? About midway through the article, the author Jeffrey Scott Shapiro, writes the following:

Shortly before the building [WTC 7] collapsed, several NYPD officers and Con-Edison workers told me that Larry Silverstein, the property developer of One World Financial Center was on the phone with his insurance carrier to see if they would authorize the controlled demolition of the building – since its foundation was already unstable and expected to fall.

This is a surprising assertion since as many have already pointed out, it can take weeks to wire a building for demolition. Thus, the blogosphere speculated, either the building was already wired or Larry Silverstein was thinking about wiring it in the future. Perhaps Silverstein himself will come forward to comment on Shapiro's statement and clear the matter up. Even a simple denial might help, but Silverstein might be reluctant to say anymore on the matter because in the past statements of his have only further complicated an already confused narrative – especially an interview he gave early in the decade about the building's fate.

A website "WhatReallyHappened.com" has a considerable explanation devoted to comments Silverstein made as follows for a television documentary: "I said, you know, we've had such terrible loss of life. Maybe the smartest thing to do is to pull it." The narrative continues as follows:

"On September 9, 2005, Mr. Dara McQuillan, a spokesman for Silverstein Properties, issued the following statement [on the issue of Larry Silverstein's "pull it" comment]: Seven World Trade Center collapsed at 5:20 p.m. on September 11, 2001, after burning for seven hours. There were no casualties, thanks to the heroism of the Fire Department and the work of Silverstein Properties employees who evacuated tenants from the building. ... Later in the day, the Fire Commander ordered his firefighters out of the building and at 5:20 p.m. the building collapsed. No lives were lost at Seven World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Mr. McQuillan has stated that by "it," Mr. Silverstein meant the contingent of firefighters remaining in the building. [US Department of State]

This statement seemingly put the matter to rest. But now Shapiro, passionately disappointed with Jesse Ventura's suspicions over 9/11, has opened the issue all over again, presumably inadvertently. The admission comes on the heels (relatively speaking anyway) of fairly incendiary statements in a book by the former Attorney General for the State of New Jersey and former senior counsel for the 9/11 Commission, John Farmer, who is also, his biography notes, FEMA certified. Farmer writes bluntly in his foreword: "At some level of the government, at some point in time, this book concludes there was a decision not to tell the truth about what happened."

Pretty strong stuff as a broad gamut of government agents testified before the commission, including FBI and CIA agents along with Bush administration, military and Pentagon personnel. But reportedly other 9/11 commissioners share Farmer's point of view and some were so incensed during the hearings that criminal charges were apparently pondered.

9/11 is a central, even mythic issue, for America. It has launched at least two wars in the Middle East and caused a wholesale change in the way Americans relate to their government. While civil liberties have been prized in the US, post 9/11 many civil liberties were disregarded because of the perceived threat of additional terrorism. There is almost unlimited wiretapping in the US these days along with aggressive intelligence operations aimed at tracking US terrorism. The entire texture of freedoms in America – and Britain and Europe as well – has been changed by 9/11.

While the Patriot Act and other abrogations of traditional American liberties can perhaps be justified on domestic security grounds, the lack of clarity about what really happened during 9/11 cries out for additional clarification. There is no need to accuse the US government or its penumbras (including Israel) of complicity in the killing of 3,000 American citizens. (Why would they?) But what should be seen as necessary is a truly independent "commission" of concerned Americans who would gather ALL the relevant evidence available about 9/11 in order to come up with a narrative that is less conflicted and does away with the increasing confusions so amply noted in the blogosphere and throughout the 'Net.

In our estimation, leaders owe it to Americans to perform a truly patriotic act by re-investigating 9/11 and getting to the heart of what went on in a dispassionate and logical way. Up to one third of all Americans (and maybe it is more now) apparently don't believe the official 9/11 story – nor does the Commission's lead attorney. In fact, a recent Pew poll revealed that up to 80 percent of Americans don't trust their government. These numbers have never existed in America before. Something is not right.

Conclusion: Imagine the relief and approval that a new investigation of 9/11 would generate. It would likely convince Americans – who ache to believe in their government at all levels – that the largest and most powerful government on the planet, the American federal government with all its attendant security agencies and military appurtenances, was dedicated to an aggressive level of honesty about one of the country's most important and controversial issues. Surely Americans and their federal government deserve no less.

At a press conference today in Washington DC, researchers unveiled "First Light" images from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, a space telescope designed to study the sun.

"SDO is working beautifully," reports project scientist Dean Pesnell of the Goddard Space Flight Center. "This is even better than we could have dreamed."

Launched on February 11th from Cape Canaveral, the observatory has spent the past two months moving into a geosynchronous orbit and activating its instruments. As soon as SDO's telescope doors opened, the spacecraft began beaming back scenes so beautiful and puzzlingly complex that even seasoned observers were stunned.

PALM BEACH GARDENS — The 36-foot-long steel beam is bent, but city officials say they are proud that the remnant from the World Trade Center soon will be displayed at the planned Sept. 11 Memorial Park.

Steel beam number C-89, which was on the south tower between the 12th-15th floors, is expected to be in place by the ninth anniversary of the attacks. The brick-red beam, weighing 10 tons, will be placed reaching toward the sky in front of Fire Station 3 on the north side of Northlake Boulevard, just west of Military Trail.

"We are putting it straight up because we want to show Americans are still standing strong," said artist Mark Fuller, a West Palm Beach resident who was in New York City the day before the attacks.

Fuller, along with several other local landscape artists, engineers and land planners, have donated their time to build the memorial. The city has approved spending up to $60,000 out of the expected $140,000 cost, which includes time and labor from donors. The $60,000 is from a fund paid by developers that can only be used for public art. The site plan was approved Thursday night.

"Our goal is to do it all from donations and not use any of that $60,000," Fuller said.

The design will be simple, with lights, brick walkways, landscaping and 8-foot-tall glass panels etched with the names of the nearly 3,000 victims in half-inch letters. A police and firefighter symbol will be placed next to the names of all firefighters and police officers killed, said Fuller.

Donations are needed to pay for the glass and etchings of the names. Supporters hope someone will donate a truck to bring the beam from New York City to Palm Beach Gardens.

The plan calls for sending four city police officers and four firefighters to New York City. They will escort the flag-draped beam, bent from the searing heat on Sept. 11, 2001, to Palm Beach Gardens. A Memorial Day groundbreaking is planned.

"The truck will stop in Stuart. Motorcycles will gather and give us a big escort into the city," said Palm Beach Gardens Deputy Fire Chief C.R. Brown.

Author Cindy Rodriguez, a paraprofessional at H.C. Storm Elementary School in Batavia (back left) and Joyce Elliott, a special education teacher at Louise White Elementary School in Batavia, wrote and illustrated a book (respectively) about Sept. 11, 2001, for children whose birthdays fall on that historic day. Rodriguez was inspired by three former students who were born that day: Jayden Johnson (front, from left), Madison Gats and Ian Henderson.

"We wanted to share with children the significance of Sept. 11 on the sixth anniversary of the terrorist attacks, especially for children having birthdays," Rodriguez said. "I went to look for literature, and everything was geared for older-aged children."

Rodriguez has written "I Was Born on 9/11," a soft-cover children's book that tells the story of what happened in New York City, how American citizens united for their country and how there is hope for a safer tomorrow.

The story gently unfolds the events of that clear, blue-sky day through the words of a narrator and poetic rhyme. Each page has colorful watercolor illustrations of children, family members, buildings and heroes.

Rodriguez's colleague, Batavia special education teacher Joyce Elliott, did the illustrations for the book.

"I started writing the manuscript on sticky notes, polished the story and submitted it to several publishers," Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez said PublishAmerica told her the book had merit, but she would have to come up with an illustrator.

"We knew each other and talked, but I didn't realize Joyce was an artist," Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez, now at Storm Elementary, found out that Elliott indeed was an artist when she saw that she was working on a project for a retiring principal.

The book helps parents who have struggled to find the words to explain the horrific events of 9/11. The story begins with a child's birthday, explains how "Some bad men decided they'd cause great trouble," and "America showed itself faithful and true ... "

"A friend's 11-year-old son for years had heard references to 9/11. The mother sat down with him and she could see that he was moved," Rodriguez said.

"I could just imagine what the mothers were going through on the day their children were born -- we were all shaken by 9/11.

"What really touched me was the fact that, even in the midst of the death, destruction, sorrow and fear, there was a reason to rejoice and go forward with life."

Rodriguez said the two Batavia students, now 8 years old, were at the book's unveiling earlier this year.

"These little ones are proof that if we stay together, we would get through it," she said.

The two Batavia teachers have a second book, titled, "Heroes Were Made On 9/11," that is in pre-publication and will be released this year around the ninth anniversary of the attacks. They have a third book in the works.

Gainesville Tea Party Mistakes 9/11 Truth Sign Holders as "Infiltrators"

Before the rally, a message on the Gainesville Tea Party Web site warned of "infiltrators" who might show up at the event and try to pose as Tea Party members to portray the movement in a negative light.


While Thursday's rally ran fairly smoothly, a stir was caused when two such infiltrators - Harold Saive and Bob Tuskin, who described himself as a University of Florida student and talk radio host - walked through the crowd several times carrying signs declaring that the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks were organized by the White House.


When an argument between Saive, Tuskin and a few crowd members started to grow heated, two Gainesville police officers showed up. Saive and Tuskin were not asked to leave the plaza. "This is basically a First Amendment thing," Saive said.

At Tax Day rally, some stress the need for fiscal responsibility and limited government.

Gainesville's second annual Tax Day Tea Party event was not as large a bash as the one last year, but hundreds still turned out to rally against government spending that they feel has grown out of control.

In 2009, the crowd at the downtown Gainesville rally was estimated at approximately 1,000. Thursday's crowd at the Bo Diddley Community Plaza downtown appeared to be in the range of 300.

Patriotic country music filled the air. American flags and replicas of the American Revolution-era flag featuring a coiled rattlesnake against a yellow background and the message "Don't Tread on Me" flapped in the breeze.

The crowd carried signs with messages such as "Vote All The Socialist Bums Out" and "Party Like It's 1773" - the year of the Boston Tea Party.

Sitting under the shade of a tree toward the back of the plaza, Bill Tutt, 75, a retired electrical engineer who lives in the Gainesville area, needed only a few words to describe why he joined the Tea Party movement.

"It (government) is too big," Tutt said.

Tutt, a registered Republican who identifies himself more as a Libertarian, said he's not against government. But he feels the federal government has grown to mammoth proportions and he favors a more decentralized government with more power for the states.

Tutt said he'd like to eliminate the National Endowment for the Arts and the U.S. Department of Education, saying public education should be left to the states.

Gainesville Tea Party President Karianne Wilkins 32, a speech pathologist from the Jonesville area, also described herself as a registered Republican who now identifies more with Libertarian ideals. She said the Tea Party movement wants to promote fiscal responsibility, limited government and the open market.

"We want the government to reduce the debt, balance the budget and be willing to cut spending," Wilkins said, "because we're already going bankrupt, and I want a future for my children. I don't want them to work just to support the government."

Nationwide, the Tea Party movement grew out of opposition to the $700 billion Trouble Asset Relief Program of 2008 (the bank bailout); the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (the stimulus package); and the heated debate over the recently adopted health care reform legislation.

While some have attempted to malign the movement as on the fringe, Tea Party support carried Republican Scott Brown to victory in the special election to fill Ted Kennedy's old U.S. Senate seat in the Democratic stronghold of Massachusetts.

Locally, the Tea Party support almost propelled Don Marsh to victory in the Gainesville mayor's race against Craig Lowe - a Democratic incumbent city commissioner in a largely Democratic city. Because Lowe won by less than one-half of a percent, a recount is scheduled for today.

Marsh, who spoke briefly Thursday, argued that Lowe supporters attempted to use that Tea Party support against him on the campaign trail but it backfired.

"They thought that was something to slander me with," Marsh said. "He's a tea partier."

Local conservative talk radio show host Jake Fuller said Marsh's strong showing should be seen as "the opening shot heard round the city" and that incumbent city commissioners should be the next target.

University of South Florida political science professor Susan MacManus said, across the country, Democratic and Republican incumbents alike should be "very nervous" about the Tea Party movement in upcoming elections.

"It's a very powerful movement," MacManus said. "It's an anger at government for not meeting their immediate needs, which are jobs and keeping their homes. It's a classic case of what happens when people think government is out of sync with pocketbook issues."

Their proposal, which they are calling the Enemy Belligerent Interrogation, Detention and Prosecution Act, would empower the U.S. military to arrest anyone, U.S. citizen or otherwise, who is suspected of terrorist associations and detain them indefinitely, without right to a trial.

Next Monday, Americans will mark the 15th anniversary of the bombing of a federal building in Oklahoma City — the worst single act of domestic terrorism in our nation’s history and a grim reminder of the fruits of right-wing radicalism.

Although Timothy McVeigh and confederates Terry Nichols and Michael Fortier were not card-carrying members of militias, they unquestionably were deeply influenced by the ideas of these paramilitary groups and the larger antigovernment “Patriot” movement. Their murder of 168 people, including 19 children in a day-care center, was in many ways the culmination of the movement’s blind anger and conspiracy theories about evil elitists in the government intent on suppressing American freedoms and forcing the nation into a socialistic “New World Order.” They also believed they were exacting vengeance on the government for its role in the deaths exactly two years earlier of nearly 80 Branch Davidian religious cultists.

Why does the mainstream media keep trotting out the Boy Who Cried Right-Wing Terrorist?

Better known as Mark Potok of the hard-left Southern Poverty Law Center, he has been trumpeted by a number of media outlets seeking to promote the notion that "right-wingers" are lurking behind every corner to overthrow the federal government.

The fact that he is consistently wrong about, well, just about everything -- from the political views of the supposed right wingers to the supposedly violent nature of conservative groups to the mere presence of violent crime -- does not seem to dissuade Old Media from using him to smear conservatives.

Potok's latest target for fear-mongering is a group called the Oathkeepers. The group consists of military veterans who pledge not to follow orders that would result in the violation of Americans' constitutional rights. I know, this is really radical, extremist, right-wing nutjob stuff.

McCain/Lieberman Submit Legislation to Legalize POLICE STATE in America.

Watching Attorney General Eric Holder struggle on Wednesday to answer senators’ questions about the detention and trial of terrorism suspects made us nostalgic for the old days — back in 2009 — when the United States was making progress toward cleaning up the mess President George W. Bush made with his detention policies.

The Pentagon was working on closing the prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. The flawed military tribunals were improved, at least a little. And the Justice Department announced that the accused mastermind of 9/11, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, would be tried in federal court.

All of that has stopped — because of Republican fear-mongering, administration blundering and Democratic not-in-my-backyardism. And unless President Obama grabs hold, things could get far worse.

Senators John McCain and Joseph Lieberman have a bill that would require the military detention and trial of anyone accused of any terrorism-related crime, including American citizens. That is the stuff of police states.

So the White House has been talking to Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, a former military prosecutor and a rare sensible voice on that side of the aisle. He supports closing Guantánamo and moving the prisoners to a federal prison. He wants to preserve the role of federal courts — specifically for cases like the would-be Christmas Day bomber, who was arrested for trying to attack civilians; for American citizens; and for foreigners charged with supporting terrorist groups financially.

In return, he wants Mr. Obama to try Mr. Mohammed in a military court and back his proposal to create a new court system for suspected terrorists. It would permanently embed in law detention powers that a president properly has only in time of war.

Even if the White House loses on the Mohammed trial because of its poisonous politics, President Obama has to insist on maintaining the long proven system of trying terrorism cases in federal court. People captured in battle may, of course, be held as military prisoners.

There are close to 200 Guantánamo inmates. Some should be released, and some should be tried in federal or military courts. The administration says 48 are a danger but cannot be tried because the evidence is too thin or fatally tainted by abuse and torture.

Mr. Bush created that problem, and it needs to be fixed. But the bigger question is how this nation will deal with terrorism suspects in the future.

The Justice and Defense Departments properly declared last year that the presumption will be that suspected terrorists will be tried in federal courts, which have handled hundreds of these cases. Mr. Holder then announced the Mohammed trial would be in New York.

Unfortunately, Mr. Holder failed to lock in the support of New York’s mayor or police chief or its Congressional delegation. Mayor Michael Bloomberg protested about security and inconvenience, and Senator Charles Schumer and Representative Jerrold Nadler jumped on board.

While Mr. Holder blew the politics, he was right about the policy. Apart from the principle, the military tribunals don’t have the experience, rules or qualified lawyers for such a case. Although Mr. Holder said on Wednesday that a federal trial for Mr. Mohammed is still possible, the poisonous politics, on display at the hearing, make that a remote possibility. If the administration insists on it, Republican lawmakers will seek to bar the use of federal funds for terrorism trials and timorous Democrats will go along.

Trying Mr. Mohammed in a military court is at least explainable by the attack on the Pentagon. But Mr. Obama should not “reconsider” the prosecutorial code and remove the presumption of federal jurisdiction over acts of terrorism. That would continue the unjust system that has made other countries reluctant to turn prisoners over to the United States, elevates criminals to the status of warrior and serves as a recruiting tool for Al Qaeda.

Have you heard of Kofi Adu-Brempong? Well, probably not so let me fill you in on the shooting.

Hundreds of students rallied at the University of Florida yesterday over the shooting of Kofi Adu-Brempong an African graduate student by campus police. Kofi Adu-Brempong, has been hospitalized in critical condition after he was shot in the face by an officer in a raid on his home earlier this month. Police say they were called to the home after neighbors reported the student to be visibly distraught. According to police, Adu-Brempong tried to attack officers with a knife and a metal rod. But supporters and family members have rejected the allegations and say the rod was actually a walking cane used by Abu-Brempong as a result of a childhood bout with polio. On Tuesday, a crowd of over 300 students marched on the University of Florida’s Board of Trustees.

UF Student Fernando Figueroa: “We’re demanding that all charges be dropped against Kofi, because they’re trying to do, you know, kind of something what’s called extortion. Like they’re saying, ‘Oh, we’ll drop the charges if you don’t file a lawsuit.’ And so, we’re demanding that all the charges be dropped and that more severe action be taken against the offending officer, Keith Smith.”

The officer who shot Kofi Adu-Brempong has been identified as Keith Smith. He has previously been reprimanded for an incident in which he allegedly harassed and threw eggs at African Americans while off-duty.

What do you guys think of all this? Do we have another racist cop trying to kill African Americans or do we have a mistake gone horribly wrong?
